Tennis Etiquette Through the Edwardian Era

2pm, Nahant Historical Society, 41 Valley Rd, Nahant

Our celebration will begin with a talk on “Tennis Etiquette Through the Edwardian Era”, held at 2 PM at the Nahant Historical Society, 41 Valley Rd. Nahant. A selection of historically interesting tennis pictures and artifacts from the NHS collection will be on display. A first viewing of items featured in our on-line auction will also be available. More information on this silent auction will be provided in June.

Sunday, July 14th

Anniversary Celebration

The main event will be held on Sunday July 14th beginning at 8:30 AM at the Nahant Tennis Inc clay courts at 280 Nahant Rd., Nahant, MA 01908. (Sunday rain date). Festivities will include introduction of honored guests - Olympic silver medalist and former World top ten player, Tim Mayotte; Dan Sears, descendant of Richard Dudley Sears; North Shore tennis legend Avis Murray, and representation from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

A friendly round robin doubles tournament played in vintage dress with wooden rackets will begin at 9 AM. A box lunch will be served to those registered, at the Nahant Country Club at noon, and will feature comments on “The first great US tennis champion – Richard Dudley Sears” by Dan Sears, and a talk on “Changes in tennis technique through the eras” by Tim Mayotte. Awards honoring the occasion will also be presented. Afterward, Tim will be playing an exhibition match with three of Nahant’s top juniors, followed by some related tennis activities.

We welcome players and spectators alike! The round robin on our four clay courts will be limited to 32 players (men and women). Sign up individually: Different partners for each round of four games will be chosen at the event. Members of NT Inc will have preference until May 15th, so register soon on the form below, to avoid disappointment. The round robin entry fee is $75/person including a box lunch catered by the Nahant Country Club. Spectators can sign up in advance for the box lunch and talk for $25.
